Where we suggest eating in Bruges
A good restaurant can turn a lovely day in Bruges into a memorable evening. From our small hotel near the Burg, most of the historic centre is easy to discover on foot. We have kept a list of places we like to recommend when guests ask us where to eat, depending on their mood, appetite and budget.
This is not a ranking or a paid directory. It brings back the four sections of our original restaurant recommendations: places to explore for plant-based dishes, local cuisine, gastronomic dining and relaxed meals or drinks. A venue can fit more than one category. Some menus and even businesses change, so check the latest details before visiting.
Tap Google Maps next to a name for its location, directions, recent opening information and contact details. These are Maps search links rather than a promise that a particular restaurant is open or has a table today.
Plant-based options and flexible menus
Some guests want a fully plant-based meal; others simply want good vegetable-focused options. These are restaurants we have suggested for that conversation. Not all of them have a fully plant-based kitchen, and recipes can change. Always ask about the current menu and dietary requirements before you book.

Traditional and local cuisine
If you would like to try Belgian and Flemish dishes, begin with these established names. Expect anything from a classic brasserie atmosphere to a more intimate dinner. Menus vary with the seasons, and some dishes may need a little planning for guests with dietary restrictions.

Gastronomic dining and special occasions
For a longer evening, an anniversary or a food-focused visit, these are names from our original fine-dining list. Reservations are particularly important on busy weekends. Check each restaurant for its current format, price range, menu and opening days.

Casual meals, cafés and local atmosphere
Not every evening needs to involve a tasting menu. A warm bistro, an atmospheric café or a relaxed beer bar can be just as memorable. Some of these addresses are better for drinks or simple dishes than a formal dinner, so check their latest offering first.

A few practical tips before heading out
- Book ahead on Fridays, Saturdays and holidays. Bruges is busy for much of the year, and small restaurants often fill quickly. Reserve directly with the venue when you can.
- Double-check opening days. Some restaurants close for part of the week or serve lunch and dinner on different schedules. The Maps link is a starting point, not a booking confirmation.
- Ask about allergies and plant-based dishes. A restaurant listed here for flexible options is not necessarily entirely plant-based. Tell the kitchen what you need.
- Stay close to the centre. Hotel Malleberg is at Hoogstraat 7, near the Burg. Many restaurants are a comfortable walk away, but confirm the route before leaving.
